Aktuell produzieren wir alle zwei Tage so viel Information wie wir vom Beginn unserer Zivilisation bis 2003 produziert haben, ca. fünf Exabytes (Eric Fischer, CEO Google). Vergleichbar mit der Informationsarchitekur des Hirns und der eines Computers hat das Netzwerk einer Stadt Knotenpunkte, Verbindungen und Beziehungen. In der Stadt bewegen sich Personen und Gruppen von Personen, die ihre Funktion und Zusammensetzung nach Bedürfnis oder Notwendigkeit verändern. Güter werden erdacht, entwickelt, transportiert, konsumiert, ausgetauscht und neu zusammengesetzt. Dieser Ausstausch läuft durch die Infrastruktur der Stadt und diesem Prozess sind Zusatzinformationen wie persönliche Daten, Interaktionen, Telekommunikation und die visuellen Eindrücke der Umgebung beigemischt. Da es offensichtlich kosteneffizienter ist Information, anstatt Menschen oder Dinge zu bewegen, tun sich hier viele Fragen auf.

Edial Dekker stellt sich die Frage, wie der Datenaustausch unsere Zukunft beeinflussen wird. Welche Rolle werden Daten, ihre Handhabung und Greifbarkeit in der Zukunft spielen? Wie können wir von und mit Daten lernen unser Leben zu verbessern oder wenigstens interessanter zu gestalten?

Edial Dekker, 26, lebt und arbeitet in Berlin. Gemeinsam mit Kamiel Blom und seinem Bruder Floris betreiben sie die digitale Medienagentur “Your Neighbours” mit Fokus auf interface design, web design und complexer Datenvisualisierung.

subnet.TALK (Offenheit, Austausch, Netzwerk)
subnet.TALK ist ein offenes Dialogformat. subnet lädt Spezialisten und Interessierte um über Themen im Spannungsfeld Technologie, Netzkultur und Gesellschaft zu diskutieren. Dialog und Gemeinschaft stehen im Vordergrund, nicht Belehrung.
Für 2011 sind 10 subnet.TALKs am letzten Donnerstag des Monats geplant. Interessierte können mit Themen und Orten an subnet herantreten. subnet wird diesen Dialog in Salzburg verorten.

Edial Dekker: visualizing the crowd
Information exchange using the infrastructure of a city, includes the movement of people and goods, personal contact, interactions, telecommunication and visual input from the environment. As with the information architecture of the brain and computers, the network has nodes, connections and interrelationships. At a higher level, people or groups, or groups of people, move from one function to another. Goods are moved, consumed, changed, combined, and created in a city. And exchanging information is cheaper than moving people and goods. "Every two days, we create as much information as we did from the dawn of civilization up untill 2003. That's something like five exabytes of data", said Eric Schmidt, the ceo of Google. So it's about time we look into this.
So how does this effect different exchanges of different costs? What kind of role will data play in the future? And how can we use this data to make our daily lives better, or at least more interesting?

subnet.TALK (open, exchange, network) is an open dialogue format. Subnet invites specialists and the interested to come together and discuss topics between technologies, netculture and society. SubnetTalk focuses on dialogue and community not instruction. For 2011 Subnet is planning 10 SubnetTalks on the last Thursday of the month.
The interested can also approache subnet with topics.

Edial Dekker is a 26-year old guy who lives in Berlin and has a design studio called Your Neighbours. Together with Kamiel Blom, and his brother Floris, they focus on user interfaces, web design and complex data visualizations.
