NtN (NEWS together NOW)
Inspired by the excitement of live sports broadcasts, NtN empowers communities making multicamera event documentation and broadcast fast, simple and affordable.

This is enabled via union and extension of standard surveillance hardware and open source streaming software. NtN enhances accessible technologies like WIFI based surveillance cams to cover points of interest. Streaming software and commodity computers are adapted to easily create, record and assemble video streams. The availability of all videos on the network, recorded and live, enables us to emulate a news room situation by the use of standard netbooks as preview monitors and preselection devices. Software designed for simple and fast use allows non-tech-people to work together. Some people are preselecting and bookmarking interesting positions within the stream, the director selects out of the offered pictures and creates the final cut. To get additional information and enable the audience to participate in this process each camera is assigned to a twitter hashtag. A tweet with this hashtag automatically creates a bookmark within the videostream at the moment of sending. This facilitates content navigation for the production team enhancing production speed and immediacy of content. The created content can be directly broadcasted increasing relevance of the news to the regional community. The video is also recorded and provides a first raw cut of documentation readily available at the end of the event.
